Goals
A goal is something a visit can do, such as signing up or reaching a thank-you page. The dashboard counts the visits that did it.
Click a goal and the whole dashboard narrows to the visits that reached it, so you see which sources and campaigns bring visitors who act, not only visitors who look. Every event a page sends is a goal already. A page goal, such as reaching a thank-you page, is a path typed into the site’s settings, with no code.
Events
Every event a page sends is a goal of its own, counted under its name, with nothing to set up first. Send one from a script:
tally('Signup', { plan: 'pro' });Or from anything that can be clicked, with no script at all:
<button data-tally="Signup" data-tally-plan="pro">Start</button>Custom events has the rest: sending one before the script has loaded, the callback, and the names and data an event can have.
Page goals
A page goal counts the visits that reach a page, such as the one after a form is sent. Add it in the site’s
settings as the page’s path, with * for anything: /thanks/* is every page under
/thanks/. A site can have up to 20. Each counts from the moment it’s added, since earlier visits
can’t be counted again.
What is counted
A goal’s conversions are the visits that reached it, each counted once however many times it did. Its conversion rate is those visits as a share of all visits.
Click a goal to see the whole dashboard for the visits that reached it: where they came from, what they used, and the conversion rate of each. An event’s data shows beside it, each value under its name. See Filtering by a goal, and A/B tests for comparing a test’s variants by their conversion rates. A visit that sent an event is never a bounce.
Hiding and removing
A site’s settings list its goals: its page goals, then the events it has sent. Hide one there and it leaves the dashboard but keeps being counted, ready to show again. A page goal can also be removed, which deletes everything it counted.
