How to add fivebar to a site, what it counts, and how to read what it counted.

Installing

Getting started Add your site, put the tag on every page, and check it’s counting.

Coding assistants Have an AI coding assistant, such as Claude Code or Cursor, add fivebar to your site and check it works.
Platforms Where the tag goes on WordPress, Shopify, Next.js and other platforms, and in Google Tag Manager and other tag managers.
Proxying Serve the script from your own domain, through Cloudflare, Vercel, nginx and others, so content blockers let it through.
Script attributes Every attribute the script tag reads, from data-domain to data-api, and what each does.
Single-page apps How fivebar counts each page of a single-page app, with nothing extra to set up.

Custom events Send an event from a page with tally(), or from a click with a data-tally attribute.
Goals Count what visitors do, such as signing up, and see how many visits convert.
Outbound links and downloads Links to other sites and file downloads, counted with nothing to set up.

Custom properties Label pages with their author, type or anything else, and see each as a pane.
Site search See what visitors search your site for, and which searches found nothing.
Error pages How fivebar tells error pages, such as 404s, from the rest, and the attribute Safari needs.
A/B tests Label each variant of a test, then compare their conversion rates, bounce rates and speed.

Metrics What each figure on the dashboard counts, from pageviews and visitors to bounce rate and visit duration.
Date ranges Choose the dates the dashboard shows, from a preset range to custom dates, and step between periods.
Panes What each pane on the dashboard lists, where its values come from, and the full view each opens.
Filters Narrow the whole dashboard to one page, source, country or any other value, up to six at once.
Sources and campaigns Where visits come from: sources, channels and the utm_ tags on your links.
Page speed How fast pages load for your visitors: TTFB, LCP, INP and more, at the 75th percentile.
Engagement How long each page was on screen and how far down it was read.
Bots What fivebar takes for a bot, left out of every other figure, and the Bots page that shows them.

Sites Add a site, switch between your sites, and change each one’s settings.
Sharing a site Invite people to a site by email, as editors or viewers, and what each role can do.
Email reports Have a site’s stats emailed to you each week, each month or both.
Public stats Let anyone see a site’s dashboard without signing in, and what stays private.
Excluding traffic Leave visits out of a site’s counts by IP address, network or country. Bots are already kept apart.
Your account Sign up, choose a plan, sign in with a link emailed to you or a passkey, and manage your account’s settings, connected apps, API tokens and passkeys.
